Online Strategies of Nonreligious and Atheistic Organizations in Croatia

Abstract Croatian society is traditionally and dominantly religious (Catholic), there are few organizations that gather together nonreligious people atheists. Starting from three theoretical perspectives on organized nonreligiosity (identity theory, cultural approach to social movements mediatization theory) this article’s aim analyze various strategies these employ in the context of their online activities. The observed function inwardly (forming identity strengthening intragroup solidarity) outwardly (trying attract new members sympathizers ‘demystify’ atheism). study based content analysis (deductive inductive) included materials posted web pages official Facebook atheistic Croatia. In first phase were analyzed with respect four predetermined (competitiveness/ cooperation, minority discourse, mimicry, exposing religion), while second inductive revealed additional (inversion, reclaiming patriotism, spirituality).
